History
In 1845 The Colleges (Ireland) Act also known as the Queen's College Act becomes law. Queen's College Cork (QCC) formally came into existence on 30 December 1845 by a royal charter of incorporation, which ordained that "in or near the City of Cork in our province of Munster in Ireland there shall be and may be erected and established one perpetual College for students.

Research
UCC prioritises research in areas that are significant at the highest international levels. This creates a significant impact and uptake in the community beyond the university. In particular, UCC’s research in food and health, photonics and perinatal medicine is recognised as world leading. Several of Ireland’s top research centres are based in UCC. These include the Tyndall National Institute (microsystems, photonics, nanotechnology) and the APC Microbiome Institute (alimentary health, functional foods), both recognised as global leaders. The Environmental Research Institute conducts research on climate action, a sustainable society and the circular economy.
Career
Most of the skills developed by degree courses are valued by employers. In recruiting graduates employers will look for evidence of these and other skills which they refer to as transferable skills.
Transferable skills - means that these skills can be transferred from the academic sphere into a work environment. Many of the transferable skills looked for are those developed from your hobbies, interests and leisure pursuits. Employers will generally examine these in the application form and at interview.

Societies are student run and have always been a vital part of the student experience on offer in UCC. They help you to learn new skills, nurture old hobbies, make new friends, take on responsibility, acquire transferable skills and, of course, have lots of fun. Joining a society will enhance your college experience like nothing else.Accreditation
Accreditation is a voluntary activity initiated by an institution that requires a rigorous self-evaluation and an independent, objective appraisal of the overall educational quality by peers. Accreditation emphasises quality assurance and a commitment to continuous quality improvement and helps determine if an institution meets or exceeds minimum standards of quality.
